BRP brings new snowmobile engine technologies to the market. February 1, 2008 Valcourt, QC - To mark the kick-off of Ski-Doo snowmobiles' 50th anniversary celebrations, BRP introduces cleaner and quieter engine choices and additional snowmobile platforms to suit everyone's riding style. This winter, BRP invites consumers to test ride two new engines and platform technologies: The next generation of advanced lightweight two-stroke engine, the Rotax 600 H.O. E-TEC available in the 2009 Ski-Doo MX Z X model. The new Rotax 4-TEC 1200 engine is available in the 2009 MX Z, GSX and GTX models. “The E-TEC technology now available in Ski-Doo snowmobiles is the same one we developed and used in the Evinrude E-TEC outboard engines and for which we received the “2005 Clean Air Technology Excellence” award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)”, said José Boisjoli, president and CEO, BRP. “BRP successfully applied a technology developed for on-water applications in summer conditions to an on-snow product. This great achievement demonstrates BRP’s ability to develop new technologies and leverage them for our products, to the benefit of our customers”. “The new Rotax 4-TEC 1200 engine also breaks new ground as it is BRP’s first performance four-stroke engine designed specifically for Ski-Doo snowmobiles. We drew from past experiences on other products and developed a new engine that brings Formula 1 racing and automobile technologies to the snowmobile world. You can hear it in the distinctive and refined performance sound, modeled after European sports cars; a sound that is unique to this snowmobile,” added Boisjoli. The first production snowmobile was manufactured in 1959. The name Ski-Doo became synonymous with winter fun and a new sport was launched. Over the past 50 years, the Company has reinvented the snowmobile many times over. Always on the cutting-edge of technology, it has consistently introduced new designs, lighter platforms and cleaner engines in its Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles. In 2009, BRP will also expand its best-in-class and lightest-in-the-industry, award-winning REV-XP platform by introducing the REV-XR version for touring and performance models and the REV-XU for utility models. The REV-XR platform’s fit and finish exudes luxury and refinement. It is available on select MX Z, GSX and GTX models. The REV-XU is a new lightweight utility variant of the REV-X platform with rugged yet sporty styling, and comes standard on the Expedition model. “With greater fuel economy, low maintenance, cleaner and quieter products, the Ski-Doo brand will attract both newcomers and former riders to one of the most exhilarating winter sports,” said Yves Leduc, vice-president, general manager, Snowmobiles, Watercraft, ATVs and Sport boats, BRP. “They can reconnect with winter and discover beautiful and breathtaking settings with these more environmentally-friendly snowmobiles.” “Over the past 50 years, we have maintained our commitment to innovation in order to deliver, year after year, award-winning products to our customers around the world. BRP's 2009 Ski-Doo line-up reflects what consumers have come to expect from us: advanced technologies, cutting-edge design, and intuitive handling that all translate into the best fun you can have on snow,” concluded Boisjoli.
